NUTLEY, NJ - Nutley Mayor Dr. Joseph Scarpelli confirmed that he will be running for his fourth term serving the people of Nutley.
Dr. Scarpelli is serving his third term on the Nutley Board of Commissioners having first been elected in 2008. His term as mayor began in 2016. The lifelong Nutley resident is the third generation of his family to dedicate himself to public service with his father Peter having served as mayor.
Dr. Scarpelli has served on the Essex County College Board of Trustees, the Nutley Board of Education, and the Essex County Board of Freeholders.
During his current term in office, Scarpelli is working closely with the developers of On3, the redevelopment project on the site of the former Roche campus. That project is establishing Nutley as a hub of life sciences. It will be home to Modern Meadow, a manufacturer or lab-grown leather, Quest Diagnostics, and Seton Hall-Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. Ralph Lauren will also have a strong presence on the campus.
Residents know the mayor as the director the Department of Public Works and often can be found chatting with him at the Nutley Farmers' Market on Sundays from June through October. The mayor also serves on the Nutley Planning Board..
