Police have received a number of complaints regarding phone fraud involving PSEG. Police Chief Strumolo urges residents to contact PSEG directly if anyone representing to be from there are seeking payment.

If you sell any item/s on the internet, DO NOT accept a check for more than the item was agreed to be sold. DO NOT deposit checks that have instructions to send a portion of that check to another location. The checks are fraudulent and you WILL lose money from your account.

Motor Vehicle Accident – Washington Avenue – Officers responded to the area on a report of a car accident. The driver, Mr. Osnar Charles, 32, of East Orange, was placed under arrest, issued four (4) motor vehicle summonses, Driving With An Expired License, Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal To Take Breath Test, and Revocation For Refusal To Submit To Breath Test; Penalties, advised of his mandatory Court date, and released from custody. 

Motor Vehicle Stop – Route 21 – Detectives initiated a motor vehicle stop which resulted in the driver, James Chalas, 22, of Paterson. He was transported to Headquarters, printed processed, charged with Possession of Marijuana, also issued motor vehicle summonses for Maintenance of Lamps, Driving While Suspended, advised of his Court date, and released from custody.

Motor Vehicle Stop – Franklin Avenue – Detectives initiated a motor vehicle stop which resulted in the arrest of the three occupants, driver, Rodolfo Tejeda-Castro, 19, Manuel Estevez-Tapia, 20, and Jose Matos, 19, all from Bronx, NY. They were transported to Headquarters, printed, processed, charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession Burglary Tools, both disorderly person’s offenses, motor vehicle summonses for Possession of CDS in Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Wear Seatbelt. In addition, the driver was issued motor vehicle summonses for Obstructed View, Fictitious Plates, and Improper U-Turn. All three were then advised of their Court dates and released.

Tree Limb Down – Warren St – Officers observed a large tree limb from a township tree on an unoccupied vehicle. The car sustained damage to the hood, roof, windshield, sides, including side view mirrors. The owner was contacted and informed of the incident and how to obtain a copy of the report. Shade Tree was contacted and a crew responded to remove the limb and debris from the vehicle and roadway.

Motor Vehicle Accident – Centre Street – A motor vehicle accident resulted in the arrest of the driver, Mr. Mike Rodriguez, 60, of Nutley. He was issued motor vehicle summonses for: Operating Under The Influence, DWI On School Property Or Within 1,000 Ft Of School, Careless Driving – Likely To Endanger Person Or Property, advised of his Court date and released from custody.

Assault – Kingsland Avenue – Several Officers were called to the area regarding a fight involving several individuals. A group that showed up at the house after a prior disagreement in Belleville earlier in the evening assaulted the family including father, son, and juvenile daughter. Injuries included a broken nose, chipped tooth, contusions, abrasions, and possible concussion. One party was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Police are investigating and have names of the actors and are pursuing charges.

Suspicious Incident – Headquarters received a report of an incident involving the sale of an item on E-bay. The victim stated they sold a New Fitbit Charge 3 Advanced Fitness Tracker (black and blue in color) on E-bay and shipped the item to the buyer in CA. The buyer received the package but stated it only contained the charger and not the actual Fitbit. The victim felt that this was suspicious since they did ship the item in its entirety to the buyer. The item was mailed back to the victim and only contained the charger and nothing else. Police report was needed to file a claim with the E-bay support staff.

Animal Complaint – Vreeland Avenue – A small white and black dog, with collar, was found in the area of Vreeland Ave. The K9 was taken into Police Headquarters for safe keeping and Animal Control was contacted. The owner arrived at Headquarters shortly after to claim their dog and it was found that it was not properly licensed therefore police were unable to determine the owner.

False Name- Bloomfield Ave- Police trying to resolve a dispute on Bloomfield Ave. were provided a false name by 27 y/o Michael Johnson of Texas. Officers were able to ascertain his real identity and mailed him a summons for hindering apprehension.

Flooded Home- Bloomfield Ave- Police responded to an apartment building on Bloomfield Ave when the basement apartment tenant reported flooding conditions. The tenant reported to police that this is the fifth time the apartment had flooded since October. Heavy water damage was observed by police.

Criminal Mischief to Auto- Robert St- Police responded to Robert St. to take a report of damage to two autos that were slated to be restored. One of the two had a large boulder thrown through the windshield and the other multiple dents.

Tree down- Police responded to a burglar alarm discovered a tree had fallen from Hawthorne Ave onto a Colonial St home. Damage to roof and gutters.

Stolen Motorcycle- Brookline Ave- Police called to assist Belleville Police when they observed several males committing burglaries. Officers located a 2017 Yamaha motorcycle that was later determined to have been stolen from Brookline Ave in Nutley. Detectives are investigating.

Damage to Vehicle- Passaic Ave- Police responded to Passaic Ave after a storm had caused a tree limb to fall onto a vehicle a 2010 Chevrolet.

Suspicious Persons- Valley St- Police observed three males walking South on Valley St. at 2:00 AM shining lights down driveways, the officer reported one male crouching down as if to avoid being observed by police. Due to the recent burglaries to autos the officer attempted to stop and question them. By the time the officer turned around the three had fled, and were unable to be located. The three were only described as 15-18 y/o/a and Hispanic.

Missing 16 y/o- Police took a report from concerned parents that their 16 y/o daughter had not returned home and the last contact they had was 11:30 PM when she told her parents she was coming home. He employer advised the parents she had left work at 10:00 PM, It was now 1:30 AM and they had not spoken to her. As the parents were reporting her missing, she returned home safely and told police she was only driving around.

Child climbing out a window- Washington Ave- Police took a call of a small child climbing out of a second story window. When officers arrived, they found a three year with his body handing out of an open window. Officers climbed a fire escape and secured the child, and found that the father was sleeping.

12 y/o Child struck by car- Centre St. Police responded to a call that a child was struck by a motorist on Centre St. The 12 y/o was on a bicycle and sustained minor injuries. He was released to a parent that was called to the scene.
