NUTLEY, NJ - The Nutley Public School District has hired a new Coordinator of World Language, ELL and Bilingual. On September 12, upon Superintendent Dr. Julie Glazer’s recommendation, Dr. Frank Ruggiero was approved by the Board of Education in this role. Dr. Ruggiero begins in Nutley on November 14, 2016.


Dr. Ruggiero replaces Mr. Joseph Materia, who held the position since 2012, and was appointed Vice Principal of Nutley High School as of July 1, 2016.

In this role as Coordinator, Dr. Ruggiero will manage all aspects of the K-12 World Language, ESL, and Bilingual Programs, including curriculum, assessment, instruction, evaluation, scheduling and state and federal reporting. In addition, he will create and manage the departmental budget and supervise all teachers within the World Language, ELL and Bilingual programs.

Dr. Ruggiero comes to Nutley from the Edison Public Schools where he has worked since 2001. Mostly recently, he was a teacher of French and Spanish. In addition, he was the Chairperson of the Evaluation Advisory Committee, a Professional Learning Community Leader, and a member of the Chromebook and Google Classroom Leadership Team. Dr. Ruggiero has been on the Board of Directors of Foreign Language Educators of New Jersey, previously as the annual conference chair and currently as Treasurer.

“Dr. Ruggiero impressed the interview committee with his knowledge of world languages, curriculum and assessment,” said Nutley Superintendent, Dr. Glazer. “He is a leader with expertise in the area of World Languages and brings with him an energy and enthusiasm for the education of our students in grades K-12.”

Dr. Ruggiero has his BA from Drew University in French and Spanish; his MAT in French and his Ed.M in Educational Administration and Supervision, both from Rutgers University.
