NUTLEY, NJ - "Hang onto your seats" Nutley Superintendent of School Dr. Julie Glazer told those in attendance at tonight's Board of Education meeting as she was about to announce the new enrollments for the 2017-2018 school year.
Glazer announced that there are 146 new student enrollments in the Nutley Public School system since July 1. There were also 130 requests for variances.
Variances are those requests whereby a family requests that that there child be placed in an elementary school other than the one they were assigned. Nutley has a large number of families who wish to have their children go to the same elementary school as the parents, or even grandparents, even though they live in another elementary school's area.
In recent years, as the addition of all-day kindergarten has taken up classroom space in some schools, new residents of one area may find their children placed in another elementary school that has more room.
Not all of the 130 requests for variances were granted.
TAPinto Nutley will have a full report about the August 31 Board of Education meeting soon, including information about the student presentations that where made tonight.
