CALDWELL, NJ - Nutley resident Elaine Bauer Zabriskie will be honored with the Caldwell University Veritas Award for Excellence in Quality Technology award on Friday, March 31 at the Essex Fells Country Club in Essex Fells. She is a 1973 alumna of the university.

The award is the highest honor the college bestows on its alumnae/alumni for their professional excellence in diverse fields.

Along with Zabriskie, Sister M. de Montfort Kinchellagh, O.P. ’68 will receive the Excellence in Social Justice Advocacy award, and Bloomfield Councilman-At-Large Carlos Pomares ’93 will receive the Excellence in Cultural Activism award.

“The Veritas Award means a great deal to me since it is bestowed on Alumni by Alumni in recognition of professional accomplishment and excellence. To be recognized by your peers holds a special significance,” said Zabriskie.

According to the press release from the University, Zabriskie has excelled in the field of telecommunications with employment at companies such as AT&T and Verizon. Among her many accomplishments is the design and implementation of a supplier report card program that identified thresholds of performance for customer requirements as well as the management of corrective actions. The program was awarded a U.S. Business Process Patent in November 2012 after a 10-year review process.

“When I graduated from Caldwell College, as it was then known, in the 1970s, my aspirations were simple. To complete my education and to get a job that would enable me to make some contributions personally and to the community, as well as to allow me to lead a balanced life personally,” she said.

“Women's roles were evolving significantly at that time, doors were beginning to be opened that previously hadn't been, and women were emerging from a largely traditional role. The great thing was that choices were available that previously hadn't been in my mother's and grandmother's generation, where professional/career goals were being developed alongside of the traditional ones. You could have both, at least to some extent, with emphasis on whichever side you chose,” she added.

She is a published author of several professional white papers on supplier performance and on a recognition program for telecommunications suppliers. Zabriskie holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and social studies from Caldwell University and master degrees in political science and in business administration in management from Montclair University. She is a lifetime certified purchasing manager and a certified software quality engineer.

“The exciting thing to me was the emergence of workplace technology and seeing it spill into the home. Tools derived from computer use made everyday life both at work and at home so much easier. Having access to unlimited data and information as provided by technology was dramatic and satisfying and I was happy I was able to be a part of that revolution,” said Zabriskie.

“I encourage today's students to continue to be creative and to find new ways to use that technology and not to be afraid to incorporate new ideas into the current curriculum. I have seen Caldwell students doing this, in my work on the Alumni Board and on my frequent trips to the campus,” she said.

“I am proud to be part of the Veritas legacy and will stay involved in the University moving to the future. I look forward to contributing to the school as a volunteer in whatever capacity I am needed to serve,” said Zabriskie.

The Negative Effects Of Prolonged Sitting And Workplace Tips From Pro Staff Physical Therapy

In recent years, media outlets have described sitting as the new smoking. This may seem like a stretch, but once you break that statement down it carries some truth. Cigarettes were not thought to be the cause of lung cancer and other serious diseases until the 1950s. Like the cigarette industry in the 1920s, the effects of prolonged sitting throughout the workday has largely been ignored and ...
