Township of Nutley Director of Public Safety Alphonse Petracco told TAPinto Nutley that it was a "severe fire,"and it is now in the hands of the Essex County Prosecutors Office (ECPO). Given that the investigation is now in the hands of the ECPO, Petracco was not able to elaborate. He did commend the fire fighters and EMTs who responded to the scene.

Katherine Carter of the ECPO confirmed one fatality.

It should be notified that the ECPO has all the investigative equipment needed to discover the cause of a fire. The presence of the ECPO does not mean there is any evidence of foul play.

As this is a developing story, details will be shared as they become available.
