NEWARK, NJ – June 1, 2017 – Panasonic Corporation of North America and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark, serving Essex, Hudson and Union counties, joined forces on May 24th to participate in the Spring Corporate Challenge, a house sponsorship program that is helping to build a subdivision in Newark for Partner Families.

Over 60 Panasonic employees and dedicated volunteers lent a hand as a way to give back to the Newark community. This was the third time Panasonic employees participated in Habitat’s Corporate Challenge. Participants were on site from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the subdivision, known as Harmony Point, 100 Hawthorne Ave.

“Our employees were excited to help not only the city of Newark as a whole, but in particular, the deserving families who will eventually live in this subdivision.” said Damien Atkins, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Panasonic Corporation of North America.

Jeffrey J. Farrell, CEO Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark, said that Panasonic has been a terrific new partner for the affiliate, helping numerous Partner Families.

“We were thrilled and honored that Panasonic has returned for its second year, with its third build, for our Corporate Challenge,” Farrell said. “The company is truly helping to contribute to the housing needs of hard-working families throughout Essex County. Panasonic is leading the way for many to obtain the dream of home ownership.”

Panasonic is part of the non-profit's annual Corporate Challenge program, in which area companies donate resources and manpower to support home builds. Panasonic employees worked on Harmony Point, Habitat’s largest project to date in Newark. Upon completion, Harmony Point will comprise 23 homes.

In 2013 Panasonic relocated to Newark, opening its state-of-the-art North American headquarters, the first newly built office tower in the city to receive Platinum and Gold LEED certification. For more information on Panasonic’s upcoming initiatives and solutions, please visit us.panasonic.com.
