PARAMUS, N.J. — A 61-year-old Westwood woman who was on foot in Paramus was struck and killed by a motorist late Sunday morning.
On December 1 at 11:30 a.m., borough police officers were dispatched to the scene of the motor vehicle accident, which occurred in front of the Assyrian Apostolic Church on Paramus Road.
Police found that the victim, identified as Lucy Akdemir, of Westwood, had been struck by an SUV while attempting to cross the street from west to east. According to a news release from the Paramus Police Department, Akdemir “was almost off the roadway" while crossing but was struck by a 2006 Toyota Highlander driven by 56-year-old Christal Chang, of Ridgewood. Chang was headed north on Paramus Road when the accident occurred, police said.
Members of the Paramus Police Department and EMS attempted to treat the victim before she was transported to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood where she later succumbed to her injuries.
There are no changes against the driver. An investigation between the Paramus Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is ongoing.
