NUTLEY, NJ - The Pink Flamingos team is one of dozens of teams raising funds for Nutley's 'Relay for Life.' Comprised of Girl Scouts, the team is currently in fourth place on the relay leader board behind three very well established teams.
While 'Relay for Life' isn't really a competition, the idea of the fundraising leader board doesn't motivate team members, and their supporters, to raise funds in the fight against cancer.
The Flamingos get their name from the unique fundraiser: flocking local lawns with flamingos. For $25, Nutley RFL Pink Flamingos will "flock" the lawn of a neighbor or friend in Nutley.Trained specialists will gather a flock of flamingos and "flamingo" the lawn under cover of night. Details about arranging a flocking can be found on the Nutley RFL Pink Flamingos Facebook page. Of course donations in larger amounts are welcome.
As of April 11, the team needs to raise just $193 to move into third place. Donations can be made directly on the Pink Flamingos 'Relay for Life' page. The team has already raised $2873 for the American Cancer Society.
The relay takes place overnight on May 19 and 20 in De Muro Park, fundraising projects will be taking place up to and including the night of the event.
