NUTLEY, NJ - The 2019 Virginius D. Mattia Memorial Award and scholarship presentation will take place Wed.May 1 at Nanina's in the Park in Belleville. 

 The honor is bestowed on a Nutley resident who demonstrate the volunteer spirit of the late Hoffmann LaRoche president. Additionally, a scholarship is awared to a high school student who exemplifies those same values. 

Recipients for the award are selected from nominations made by the members of the community.

Last year, Nutley Thriving Survivors received the award, Barbara Carrino received the award in 2017.

Mark Boffa, grandson of Dr. Mattia, discussed what happens after the nominations are received. "We always have a problem of too many deserving people" from which to make a choice, This "says a lot about Nutley." 

The 2019 honoree has not been announced, yet. TAPinto Nutley is expecting that news any day now.

Since 2016,  has been the only locally owned news organization serving the Township of Nutley, and is a member of the New Jersey Press Association. The Nutley Board of Commissioners made the township's 'Official Electronic News Source' starting in 2019.
