NUTLEY, NJ - Trader Joe's donated more than 6,000 handled grocery bags be filled during the Scouts annual township wide food drive to benefit the supplemental nutrition program of the Nutley Family Service Bureau (NFSB). The food drive took place on Saturday March 25.

Early in the week, residents of the Nutley found Trader Joe's bags on their door handles with a message from a local scout describing the food drive. These bags were to placed on the doorstep on Saturday morning with food donations.

Sometime after 10 a.m.scouts, and parents who gave up their morning to help, made their way through town picking up filled bags. Car, truck, SUV and Jeep loads of filled grocery bags were then delivered to NFSB all day.

Another large set of bags remained in the NFSB Annex as a part of distribution of their supplemental nutrition program. Each week dozens of Nutley families including the elderly, disabled, and veterans receive supplemental nutrition from the pantry. The study handled bags from Trader Joe's makes getting food home easy.

Township residents who may have forgotten to place their donation out in time for pick up should call the telephone number on the bag so that a scout family can arrange a pick up. Residents who wish to drop off their donation directly can do so. NFSB asks that residents who wish to drop off at the annex should leave the donations on the covered back porch of the annex on Chestnut Street.
