My name is Christopher Cullari and I am running for commissioner.
Before I get into why I am running, I just wanted to say thank you to all those nurses, doctors, medical support staff and our first responders that are putting themselves in danger every day to get us through this unprecedented time. I also wanted to thank the Nutley community that has come together in support of our local businesses and have continued to frequent these businesses.
Now about me and why I am running.
I am a 42 year old husband and father of 2 girls, Entrepreneur, Real Estate investor and Nutley resident since 2004.
I grew up in the Jersey Shore town of Bayville and graduated third in my class from Central Regional High School. I attended Stevens Institute of Technology and graduated with Honors with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Engineering.
I decided to run for commissioner because I know that I can make a positive difference in our community by running. I have seen too many senior citizens having to sell their homes because they cannot keep up with the ever-growing burden of property taxes. This breaks my heart to see as our seniors are our history and our back-bone. I do not believe we are doing enough to assist our seniors with educating them as to the availability of the “Senior Freeze” program and assisting them with applying for this program.
I have also spoken with many families over the last couple of months. What I have learned is that a sizable percentage of them are simply waiting until their kids are done with school and have plans to move immediately afterward because they cannot keep up with the property tax increases.
While our taxes keep going up, I have seen wasteful spending and an attitude that simply holding the line at 2% budget increases is enough. It is time for our local officials to rein in spending and do everything within their power to stabilize property taxes if not lower them.
I look forward to sharing in the next couple of weeks some of my ideas on how we can achieve this goal.
