Allow me to introduce myself. I am Ken Reilly, and I am a lifelong resident of Nutley and proud father of five children. I decided to run for a seat on the Nutley Board of Education (the Board) because giving back to the community that has so greatly enriched my life, is an essential part of who I am. I previously served eight years on the Board, including as President, working tirelessly to provide a quality education for the children of Nutley while remaining fiscally responsible. By the time I stepped down from the Board due to a serious illness in 2014, Nutley High School (NHS) stood at 130 on NJ Monthly’s Top Schools list, a compilation of state-wide public high school rankings, a marked improvement over our 2012 rank at 140 (NHS stands at 146 as of NJ Monthly’s 2018 list just released in September 2018, also an improvement over its rank at 166 in 2016). During my years on the Board, I also chaired the Policy, Personnel, Budget, Facilities, Academics and Athletics Committees, and I am proud to say that I initiated both the Autism and Full-Day Kindergarten programs in the district. In addition, I formerly served as President of the Nutley Rotary and the Nutley Recreation Basketball Program, and sat on the Board of Directors of the Nutley Red Cross. I believe that my years of distinguished service to the community, as well as my proven track record as a Board of Education representative, makes me distinctly prepared to once again serve on the Board with the goal of providing Nutley students a superior educational experience, and residents and taxpayers the assurance of fiscal responsibility. I would consider it a great privilege to once again represent Nutley citizens in working to help the Nutley School District reach its fullest potential.
