An Open Letter To The Nutley Planning and Zoning Boards

Dear Nutley Planning and Zoning Board Members,

I am writing because, as a parent who is involved in the school, I understand the importance of and need to pass the upcoming referendum. It is something for which I am personally advocating. I have seen firsthand the impact that the overcrowding issues has had in our schools. I have been to all the meetings. I've internalized ...

How Eleventh Hour Rescue and Other Shelters Help Animals Find Their Forever Homes

October 3, 2017

The South Orange Animal Coalition worked for 25 years saving strays from kill shelters. Tragically in 2014 this shelter closed, which left Maplewood and South Orange with no animal shelter. All strays are now taken by shelters in neighboring towns which don't have a no kill policy. Which means helping the shelters we do have means so much more. Girl Scouts cadettes Natasha Lyons and ...

Cardboard Purgatory

The Homeless. Everyone agrees it’s a problem yet no one has a solution. Many of us would refuse to walk an inch in their shoes but most of them would walk a mile with blistered bare feet just to have a pair of our shoes. They are looked down on, looked at with disgust by many, looked at with sympathy or empathy by others. Most of us walk past them pretending not to see them, or maybe ...

Final Thoughts on the Referendum

September 30, 2017

I have no doubt there is a space shortage, no doubt something needs to be done and no doubt the Board has done their due diligence. However I respectfully believe that we can do better than this plan. The cost here far outweighs the benefits. We are facing difficult times ahead as a community so taking time to get this right is critical.

My concerns with the current plan are:

It does not ...

I have heard this number repeated throughout town by people as the reason we need to ...

The Boy is Back by Meg Cabot

The Mommy’s Review - Welcome back, water bottles!

Well, the kids are firmly back in school, and one of my priorities this year is for everyone to stay dry! No, not in the potty training sense! I can’t tell you how many times my kids came home with wet lunchboxes and school bags this past school year. Their reusable water bottles just ...
