August 19, 2017

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Mother Nature showed a wide range of emotions Friday night.

She was blustery and defiant, delivering a fast moving rain storm that forced cancellation of Friday night's Hillsborough Rotary Fair, accompanied by flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder.

She was also considerate, with the rain helping to clear out the oppressive humidity that had hung over the state ...

Sparta Rocks

SPARTA, NJ – Sometimes you have to look down to be uplifted.  You may have noticed painted rocks lying about around town.  Some are painted with pictures and designs, some have positive messages.

This is not the work of elves, but local ‘artists’ looking to spread happiness one rock at a time. It is part of an initiative that is both national and ...

To The Editor: Recently our Board of Commissioners passed a resolution giving our Public Safety employees a 3% wage increase that they feel they deserve.

A New Jersey High Schooler’s Thoughts on ‘13 Reasons Why’

August 8, 2017

Hannah Baker. A name that is sweeping the nation since “13 Reasons Why” aired on Netflix in late March this year. People have perceived the show to be strictly about suicide. Yes, that is true. It is primarily about a girl who reaches her end and kills herself, but that is not the premise of the show.

Reviews have depicted the show as glorifying suicide. To me, that is ridiculous.

Open Letter to Rutgers Administration Over Hypocrisy

Rutgers University,

Isn’t intellectual diversity a wonderful concept? Unlike race, gender, sexual orientation or religion, ideas carry with them real variety. Regardless of aesthetic difference, we’re all the same on the inside. What makes people, and students, unique are our varying ideas, not what we look like. That’s the diversity our university should ...

Rep. Frelinghuysen Trails in Early NJ11th Poll.

Independent Poll: Healthcare vote costs Republican incumbent an additional 9 points in next year’s election.

With the seeming collapse of the Affordable Care Act repeal process in the Senate, members of the House who voted in support of a highly unpopular bill have been left with a lot to defend, and little to show for it. The potentially catastrophic effects of these votes for ...

Affordable Housing in Newark – A More Informed Path Forward

I am both a beneficiary and benefactor of affordable housing in Newark. My parents both played key roles in organizing and implementing the first wave of low income and affordable housing in the City of Newark more than 50 years ago and in so doing, they created the template for many of the community development organizations, which have and continue to do business in the City of ...
