NUTLEY, NJ - The members of the Nutley Board of Education elected a new president and vice president at the open public meeting Tues. Jan 7 at John H. Walker Middle School.
Charles Kucinski, who was re-elected to the BOE in November was elected president. Board member Sal Ferraro nominated Kucinski and Frank DeMaio seconded. All members of the board voted "yes" for Kucinski except Teri Quirk. Board member Ken Reilly, who is running for Nutley Board of Commissioners, was not present at the meeting and therefore unable to cast a vote.
Lisa Danchak-Martin, was elected as Nutley Board of Education Vice President. Trustee Fred Scalera nominated her with Danny Carnicella seconding. All members of the board who were present for the meeting voted yes for Danchak-Martin.
Kucinski thanked the trustees for their vote and their service to Nutley. He also thanked Carnicella for taking the board forward and moving it to the next generation. He also thanked Danchak-Martin for her continued service to education in the township.
In 2020, the Nutley Board of Education will continue to work toward solutions regarding the shrinking classroom, the state aid differential with Belleville and Bloomfield, and continuation of the upward trajectory of student performance.
Nutley Commissioners Tom Evans and Mauro Tucci were present for the meeting.
