EAST ORANGE, NJ - On February 28th, The City of East Orange hosted a Black History Month Celebration & Lifetime Citizen Awards at Cicely Tyson School Performing Arts Center featuring Special Guest Speaker Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver. 

The theme was centered on the “Great Migration,” the movement of African Americans from the South to the North. As a token of appreciation, Mayor Ted R. Green presented Lt. Governor Oliver with a commissioned portrait by East Orange artist Kojo “Drift” Aidoo.

Lifetime Citizen Awards Honorees include: Principal Baruti Kafele, Educator and Motivational Speaker, Mark Smith, Joi’s Angels Co-Founder, Odell A. Rolling, III, Little League Football Coach, Michael J. Davis, Recreation Staff & “Voice of East Orange” and Derrick Johnson, East Orange High School Women’s Basketball Head Coach.
