NUTLEY, NJ - With enough screens to show every NFL game today, the Oakley Kitchen and Cocktails is the place to be for an indoor "tailgate" featuring a reimagined Surf and Turf.
Named for Annie Oakley, a one time Nutley resident who broke the rules and reimagined things for her audience, Chef Jeff has been doing the same at Nutley's new gastropub. Launching today: "The Oakley Surf and Turf."
Instead of the same surf and turf from the 1950's, the Oakley's interpretation features skirt steak with chimichurri sauce and shrimp scampi white pizza. When TAPinto Nutley previewed this dish on Labor Day, there was more than enough for the two of us, with some left overs for later that day. The steak comes with a generous portion of fries, and with Jersey Barnfire Hot Sauce on the tables, we just had to try every variety, again , and again, and again. The combo is available every Sunday for $40.
In true "let's play with our food" style, one of us folded our shrimp scampi pizza taco style, added some skirt steak and a fry or two, topped it Jersey Barnfire Black Garlic Hot Sauce and discovered a new favorite thing to do when no one is watching.
The Oakley is located at 789 Bloomfield Ave in Nutley, just across from the On3 campus. There is parking alongside the building as well across the street along Nichols Park.
