NUTLEY, NJ - It was a hot week for the township's newest business, Pretty Handy, and not just because temperatures everywhere set new records. The retailer's Grand Opening week was marked by a friendly competition that gave back to three organizations serving the community.
Rob and Joyce, the duo behind Pretty Handy, brought together the idea of locally sourced retail, a makers space, and blended it with a large dose of civic engagement. Their space brings together local crafters and vendors together while showcasing how many of the products are made.
The pair have spent much of the Spring and early Summer seeking locally sourced goods for their Franklin Ave. location. Their goal was simple, promote local businesses and crafters. For the grand opening, they are looked to boost Nutley's tradition of giving back by hosting a friendly competition among three service organizations.
For grand opening week each of the three organizations had a donation box in the shop The group that received the most donations won. The group will also be the recipient of a free promotional item designed and produced exclusively for them. That item will be for sale in the shop with a percentage of sales of that item donated back the organization as long at that item is carried for sale.
The three organizations were S.T.A.R.T, Nutley Educational Foundation, and the Nutley Volunteer Emergency and Rescue Squad.
The winner for the Pretty Handy Grand Opening Competition is ..... drum roll please .... Nutley Volunteer Emergency and Rescue Squad.
Pretty Handy - Gift Shop & Makerspace is located at 175 Franklin Ave, Suite 202, Nutley NJ, 07110.
