NUTLEY, NJ - Parents haven't even made that last minute Target run for Halloween candy yet, but the folks at Nutley Family Service Bureau are already in "full steam ahead" mode for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Long before the distribution of Thanksgiving meals to food pantry clients, NFSB gathers of team of volunteers and donors to glean, gather, sort, and package. Think of it as a Nutley version of the Berlin Airlift, with KIAs and Hondas instead of DC-3 aircraft.
Before any of the sorting and distribution can take place, NFSB puts out the call for individuals and businesses to sign up for donations. Using a nifty online portal, donors can view the list of items needed and pledge to make those donations. The online portal can be found here:
The other feature in the portal is the volunteer sign up for sorting and packing donations. Keep in mind that during this time of year NFSB is sorting Thanksgiving, as well as the food items for the "regular" pantry distribution - so many hands are needed to make light work.
In keeping with TAPinto Nutley tradition, we'll be in touch with Eileen Painter, Executive Director of NFSB on a regular basis to put out the call should donations of a particular items need a little nudge.
Donations may be dropped in the marked bins on the back porch of the NFSB Annex, at 169 Chestnut Street, Nutley. Appointments may be made for special deliveries.
