As a follow-up to the Department of Public Safety’s initial comments, the Nutley Board of Commissioners offer our condolences to the Russo family on the loss of Amanda and Danny in the tragic fire on Saturday. We also pray for the complete recovery of Mr. Russo.

As we mourn the loss of two of our residents, we must also salute the efforts of our first responders. Nutley Police, Nutley Volunteer Emergency Rescue, and Nutley Fire Departments, as well as the surrounding municipalities who offered mutual aid, played a critical role in preventing further tragedy.

Thank you to Nutley resident and Good Samaritan, Joe Caprio, who bravely and unselfishly helped evacuate the home and called 911. Thank you also to the Russo’s friends and neighbors who have opened their hearts and homes to the family.
