NUTLEY, NJ - In the Nutley Public Schools ongoing preparation for coronavirus, students will not report to school on Monday March 16, but will be required to log on to the nutley.schoology.com portal.

Dr. Julie Glazer, Superintendent of Schools, sent the following letter to parents and guardians in the district Mar. 10:

Dear Nutley Parents/Guardians,

As we indicated in our last communication, we are working diligently to be prepared in the event of a district closure due to COVID-19. In an effort to have both staff and students prepared should the district need to close temporarily, we will hold a full day of Professional Development on Monday, March 16th. Students will not be present in school that day, but there is an expectation for them to help in this process. Details are below.

March 16th will replace the scheduled single session Professional Development Day on Friday, March 27. This day, March 27, will now be a regular day of school for staff and students.

March 16th will be considered the first of our four built-in “snow days.” Our school year will now end for students and staff on Friday, June 19, 2020. Here is a link to the calendar. This may have an effect on the NHS letter-day calendar and also the final exam schedule. Building administrators will be in touch.

On Monday, March 16th, we are asking students to help us test their capabilities from home. Students are expected to log into the Schoology platform on Monday, March 16th at 9:30am. Students will respond to a brief discussion question, posed by their teacher, and then log out. This is what all students are expected to do on Monday.

On Monday, March 16th, all Nutley staff members will participate in specific training for this type of remote learning and to develop grade-level appropriate cyber lessons.

We ask, that over the course of the next few days, students practice logging into Schoology. Details to log in are below. Elementary logins will be sent home again this week. For any students in grades 6-12 who have difficulty logging in, please reach out to your building main office.

To log in:

1. Go to nutley.schoology.com

2. Sign in using your Nutley Google Account credentials

To log out:

1. Click on the dropdown arrow next to your user name

2. Select “Logout”

We ask that students in grades 6-12 and all staff members bring their devices and chargers home each day. We also ask that parents check their email regularly. This is the way the district will be in communication.

Thank you for your help during this time.

Sincerely,

Dr. Julie Glazer
