NUTLEY, NJ - The "Nutley RFL Pink Flamingos" are getting ready to ruffle some feathers by proving that #CancerIs4TheBirds at Nutley's 20th Annual Relay for Life in May. 2018 will mark the Flamingos second year raising funds for the American Cancer Society.
The team. made up entirely of Girl Scouts, decided to come up with a fundraising idea that was never done before. The also wanted it to be a FUN-draiser, so they came up with the idea of 'flocking' lawns in Nutley. For a $25 donation, trained specialists gathered a flock of flamingos and "flamingo" the lawn under cover of night. Come morning the residents will discover their lawn covered in a flock of pink flamingos. The message will also be left with information about how to have friends and family flocked.
In 2017, the Pink Flamingos were the top fundraising team in Nutley, raising more money than teams were a part of Nutley Relay for Life for years. While 'Relay for Life' isn't really a competition, the idea of the fundraising leader board does motivate team members, and their supporters, to raise funds in the fight against cancer.
In addition to flocking, the flamingos host other fundraising event throughout relay season. Supporters of the team can also make direct donations to the Nutley RFL Pink Flamingos page on the American Cancer Society page.
