DENVILLE, NJ -- The principal of a Denville middle school is facing charges including attempted sexual assault of a student, according to authorities.
The man, Paul Iantosca, 52, who is principal of Valleyview Middle School, was charged with one count of luring, one count of attempted sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, said Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp, Acting Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Investigations Christoph Kimker and Denville Police Chief Frank Perna.
Iantosca is a Randolph resident, said the authorities.
They said Iantosca engaged in the illegal actions with a 16-year-old former student. Iantosca is being held in the Morris County jail, they noted.
Denville Superintendent of Schools Steven Forte said he was told Thursday evening about the arrest. He said Iantosca "has been suspended and is not permitted on school grounds or to have contact with any staff or students."
Forte noted that the the crimes being alleged "did not occur on school grounds and did not involve any students who currently attend Denville Twp PK-8 schools." He added the following:
"This matter will be handled in a court of law, and remains under investigation.
