NUTLEY, NJ - A resident alerted called the Nutley Police Department on Thursday after seeing a toddler left unattended in the stroller in the parking lot of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Nutley.

Police Officer Sibilia was first on the scene and immediately took the child into the church for warmth. The Nutley Volunteer Emergency and Rescue Squad took the child to the hospital for an evaluation. It is not known how long the child was left in the cold.

Nutley police were still on the scene when the child's mother called the school. She left the toddler outside the car after picking up another child from the school.

The incident remains under investigation.
