NUTLEY, NJ - With package thefts from Nutley porches making headlines regularly, the Nutley Police Department announced that three individuals were arrested on Monday. The arrests were made as a result of cooperation between Nutley and the Belleville Police Department.
Nutley Police Chief Thomas Strulolo reported that porch thefts were popular among thieves this summer. The problem is not isolated to Nutley, TAPinto editors across the state regularly report incidents of package thefts in their communities as well.
The three parties arrested on Monday were responsible for nearly a dozen package theft incidents in the area. Among the items stolen was a kitchen sink stolen from a Highfield Lane home following a delivery from Amazon.com.
By working with the New Jersey State Police Real Time Crime Center, the detectives investigating the cases identified a black Acura associated with the thefts. That information led to the arrests of 26 year old Luis Colon and two juveniles from Newark. All three were charged with multiple counts of theft.
Along with making the arrests, police were able to recover many of the stolen items, including the kitchen sink. Strumolo explained that the detectived treated each case with the same level of hard work, whether the items were of high value or not.
Nutley Director of Public Safety Alphonse Petracco said that the cooperation we received between the residents, Belleville police and the New Jersey Sate Police was exactly the way it should work.
