NUTLEY, NJ - Today's high winds caused a tree on Ridge Road to fall, knocking down power lines and sparking a small fire in the area.
The Nutley Fire Department and Nutley Police Department responded to the area immediately. The small fire, that appeared to be primarily leaf matter, was contained quickly. Police blocked the area as there were live wires on the ground.
PSEG crews arrived shortly after local crews arrived.
When the tree fell it cut off power to homes in the immediate area, including the traffic light at Centre St. and East Passaic Ave. PSEG cut power to the grid so that the live wires on the ground would not cause injury to anyone working the scene.
As of 3:59 p.m. Saturday, PSEG estimates restoration of power in the area immediately around the incident area as 10:30 p.m. as a telephone pole was knocked down in the incident. Some portions of the grid that was shut down may have power restored earlier.
