MONTCLAIR, NJ - Members of the Nutley Volunteer Emergency & Rescue Squad (NVERS) recently brought a 78 year old male experiencing symptoms of a stroke to Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair.
The patient was given t-PA and then transported to the Neurointerventional Lab where Dr. Daniel Walzman performed an acute mechanical thrombectomy and successfully removed a clot.
Immediately following the procedure, the patient was able to move both arms and both legs and follow commands he was given. He was then admitted into the ICU.
Given patient confidentiality laws, this is as far as this story can go, but it serves as a reminder of the work the volunteers at NVERS do every day of the year.
