NUTLEY, NJ - When Khris Reina, owner of the Oakley Kitchen learned that the Nutley Volunteer Emergency and Rescue Squad (NVERS) had to cancel a major fundraiser, he and his team jumped into action to help. For the past several days, a portion of sales from a select "Family Dinner" menu went directly to NVERS. Tonight, Sunday Mar. 22, is the last night of the fundraiser.
TAPinto Nutley broke the news Sat. Mar 21 that NVERS is having an especially challenging time. Read our exclusive report here: Nutley Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad Needs Your Help during COVID-19 Pandemic NVERS doesn't receive funds from the township, fundraising and insurance payments are the only sources of income to cover the expenses of their vital services, so everyone's support is critically needed.
Tonight, residents who want to help the squad, can order from the take-away menu to support the squad.
The team at the Oakley set up four different tray options, each serving about four people. Trays are $40 each and are:
- Apple salad with chicken, and 20 wings
- Short ribs and gravy with potatoes and vegetables
- Dozen carnitas (pork tacos) with side of rice and beans
- Seafood pasta (penne pasta with shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops and calamari folded in Alfredo sauce) with house salad
- The full fundraiser menu is viewable in the photo slideshow above, swipe left.
The Oakley is offering free delivery to Nutley addresses and a 20% discount on pick-up.
Orders can be placed via phone at (973) 542-8676; Reina stated that orders can even be placed in advance.
The Oakley is located at 789 Bloomfield Ave. Nutley NJ 07110.
Editor's Note: The sepia tone photo, taken by local artist Catherine Pezo was featured in the 2020 NVERS calendar. The calendar was the brainchild of Robg and Joyce, owners of Nutley's maker-space / gift shop Pretty Handy on Franklin Ave.
