NUTLEY, NJ - A Truck struck power lines on Park Ave. shortly after noon in Nutley causing a chain reaction of events that lead to a power outage in the area and broken telephone poles along that street according to Nutley Commissioner of Public Safety Alphonse Petracco.
Witnesses on the scene, including staff from Eastwick College, told TAPinto Nutley that weight of a snapping pole triggered a chain reaction that brought down at least two other poles in the area. A transformer on one of the fallen poles blew but it is unclear at this time if that occurred while still at the top of the pole or after crashing into the street. A car parked in the auto body shop was damaged from falling debris.
Nutley Police and Fire Units responded to the scene. Commissioner Petracco rushed to the scene to inspect the damage. Crews from PSE&G also responded to the scene. Power was turned off in the area for the safety of the repair crews.
The entire section of Park Ave from Washington Street o River Road is closed to traffic at this time.
