BAYONNE, NJ- The former site of Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne (MOTBY) will soon be the site of a 651 luxury homes according an announcement from the developers earlier this week. A joint venture partnership between JMF Properties, RD Management, and Accurate Builders & Developers, the project is slated to break ground this fall.

Joseph Forgione, founder and principal of JMF Properties, says that the new development will provide a “high-end residential offering that will bring an energy-infused, dynamic living experience to Bayonne.”

Two five-story buildings will inhabit the bulk of 14-acre plot, as well as an 820-space parking garage. The 651 rental units will be comprised of studio, one- and two- bedroom apartments and offer access to amenities including a rooftop swimming pool and views of the nearby Bayonne Golf Club.

The residential space is being built within walking distance of an already-announced 240,000 square feet retail complex highlighted by a Costco Wholesale Club that is expected to open in early 2019. Named “Harbor View Marketplace,” the massive project hopes to attract foot traffic from waterfront tourists as well as future residents.

“This is yet another sign that MOTBY development is a reality and that our commitment to creating a brighter future for Bayonne is well underway,” says Mayor James Davis.

To cement its mixed-use capabilities, a ferry terminal with connections to Manhattan is being planned with SeaStreak, LLC being designated as the ferry operated by the Bayonne City Council on Wednesday.

“We are very excited about the return of ferry service to Bayonne,” Davis stated prior to the resolution’s approval. The resolution now authorizes the City of Bayonne to negotiate with the provider to “effectuate the development and operations of a passenger ferry.”

The ferry service, Davis said, “is another sign that Bayonne is making great progress.”

In addition, a walking path over Route 440 will be constructed to provide easy access to the 34th Street Light Rail station.

Construction on the first residential building is expected to be completed in 14-18 months, while the second will take about 28 months.
