NUTLEY, NJ - When the 2019-'20 season begins for the Nutley High girls basketball team, the Lady Raiders will be seeking to avoid the poor start that plagued last year's campaign.

A year ago, Nutley dropped its first five games en route to a 9-18 finish. Nutley had finished 16-9 in 2017-'18 and is just five years removed from its sectional championship season in 2015.

"We're a young team having graduated four of our five starters," began head coach Larry Mitschow. "We have just three seniors and one junior with the rest sophomores and freshmen. And we also play eight of our first nine games on the road so we have our work cut out for us."

As the beginning of a new boys basketball season gets ready to tip for Nutley High, veteran head coach Robert Harbison has a very honest outlook.

"We lost about 40 points per game through graduation last year so we're going to take our lumps," said Harbison, who is entering his 21st season at the helm. "It'll be tough until we get our feet under us."

Nutley will be looking to improve upon last year's team that finished 10-15 and failed to qualify for the state tournament for the first time since 2015.
