HACKENSACK, NJ - A Bergen County Sheriff’s Officer faces charges after police say he was driving while intoxicated last month in Secaucus.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on June 20, Brian Smith, a 24-year-old South Hackensack resident, was arrested when police responded to Paulanne Terrace on a report of a suspicious man in a vehicle, according to a report provided by Secaucus Police.
Smith was also issued three additional motor vehicle summonses and subsequently released, the report said.
Bergen County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derek Sands could not be reached Wednesday for comment regarding Smith’s job status.
Smith’s arrest occurred a few days after he filed a lawsuit against South Hackensack, claiming he was injured two years ago after drinking alcohol with township firefighters, NJ.com reports. Smith, who is also a member of the volunteer fire department, said he was struck by a fire engine, the paper reports.
