PARAMUS, N.J. -- A 65-year-old Bergenfield man has been charged with distribution of child pornography after a months-long investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office determined he used the internet to share nude files of children.

A search warrant was executed Tuesday at the home of Joseph Benestante, a retired married man, by members of the Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit. The investigation, with help from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, in addition to the Lyndhurst and Woodcliff Lake Police Departments which participate in the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force, found that Benestante surfed the internet to view and share digital files depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent children via online chat.

Benestante was arrested in Paramus Tuesday and faces one count of distribution of child pornography, a second-degree crime. He was released pending an appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
