PARAMUS, N.J. — Paramus Police arrested a 19-year-old Newark man after a high-speed police pursuit on Route 208 ended when the perpetrator ran out of gas on the highway.

According to a news release from Paramus Police Chief Kenneth R. Ehrenburg, early Thursday morning after 3 a.m., the Paramus Police Department was notified that a 2018 Mercedes-Benz was stolen from the Borough of Dumont and that the owner had been using a vehicle tracking app to trace it. Within minutes, a Paramus police officer observed the vehicle speeding on Route 4 westbound and proceeded to follow it onto Route 208 north until the gas tank needle dipped to empty and it stalled to a stop.

The officer, along with another officer and a police sergeant grappled with the driver, Damon Dunston, who was dressed in all black and wearing black gloves and was recalcitrant at the time of his arrest. Dunston was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding police and resisting arrest. He is due in court at an undisclosed date.
