Detectives Arrest Husband in Welfare Check Homicide Case

Homicide detectives arrested Patrick Palmer this afternoon for the murder of his wife, Sherryl Palmer. Detectives believe Patrick Palmer engaged in an elaborate cover up in the days after her death in an attempt to make the victim's friends and family believe she was still alive.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots the evening of April 14. Several people attempted to contact the victim and were uneasy with her apparent disappearance, which triggered a welfare check to the home.

Upon entering the home on April 17, deputies found blood in several rooms. Patrick Palmer was lying on the bed and bleeding from injuries to his arms. He was transported to a local hospital.

Investigators found the victim's body in the backyard wrapped in several tarps. Near the body, detectives came upon a pickaxe and shovel near what appeared to be a shallow grave.

The victim had begun to decompose. Dental records were used to confirm her identity. The victim was shot twice in the head. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detectives James Hayes or Jeffrey Curtis at 954-321-4231. Reports can also be made anonymously to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
