PARKLAND, FL- Carson Chung recently was selected to represent the state of Florida in the Olympic Development Program (ODP). After initial tryouts he was selected for Pool Training. Players for the state teams were chosen by coaches from the pool training. Carson will complete team training for the next couple of months. He will then travel to Alabama in July for Regional Camp. A Regional Team will then be selected from the state teams and from there a National Olympic Development Team is selected to represent the United States.
Carson has played soccer since the age of 5 and competitive soccer since age 8. He is an 8th grader on the Parkland 2005 Boys Red Team where he plays centerback and serves as captain of his team. He attributes his success to his past and present coaches. He was trained and coached by Director Roger Thomas and currently by Coach Anthony Corbett. "Carson grew tremendously with Roger and Coach Anthony has been an incredible coach and mentor," stated Renay Chung, mother of Carson.
Carson was excited to make the ODP state team. "I am beyond thrilled to make the ODP state team," added Carson. He has worked hard to achieve this accomplishment and has his sights set on making the ODP regional and national teams. Carson's long term goal is to play Division I soccer and to pursue a career in professional soccer. His ultimate goal is to represent the US on the US national soccer team. For now, Carson is focused on his Parkland team as they prepare for the State Cup this weekend.
The future is bright for the soccer career of Carson Chung. "I am passionate and excited about the possibilities." he added.
