PARKLAND, FL- Parkland Travel Soccer turned in a tremendously successful weekend at the Weston Cup in Weston, FL, over the weekend. Parkland's competitive teams won 6 divisions at the massive tournament.
The following teams took home first place in their respective divisions: 2003 Boys, 2004 Boys, 2007 Boys, 2009 Boys, 2008 Girls, and 2009 Girls.
The weekend's championships were highlighted by the 2007 Red Boys Team that took home first place in the Gold Division. The boys battled Doral Elite to a 0-0 tie on the field, eventually sending the game to penalty kicks for the championship. The Parkland Boys prevailed when goalie Ryan Benjamin outdueled Doral to win the game for Parkland.
"I would like to thank Coach Dumel for giving me this opportunity to play on such an amazing team with a great group of talented players," said an ecstatic Benjamin. "It felt fantastic to win a tournament where all four of our games were against teams ranked in the top six in Florida. This motivated our team and every person on the team stepped up, gave 110% and never quit."
The Weston Cup and Showcase Tournament is widely considered to be one of America's elite youth soccer tournaments. Over 750 teams compete annually at the event, making Parkland's six wins this year a notable accomplishment for the local club.
