PARKLAND, FL- National Literacy Week begins January 28, 2019 and Florida’s theme is “Spreading Literacy, One View at a Time.” To better spread the awareness of literacy and the importance of reading the Florida Department of Education is holding a state contest for high schools, middle schools and elementary schools. Students were asked to submit a YouTube video that conveys the importance of literacy and the love of learning.
One one of this year’s entrants is Juliet Hodge’s 7th grade Multimedia class at Westglades Middle School. They created a video about the idea that reading takes us to places far beyond real life, and that our imagination can take us anywhere. “My kids amaze me more and more with each project they complete. This, by far, was their best yet. I couldn't be more proud of their work,” said Ms. Hodge.
The Florida school with the most YouTube views will win the contest and be awarded money for the purchase of books for their school library and media center.
