PARKLAND, FL- The 1st Annual "Orange Ribbons For Jaime" Dance-A-Thon is generating a significant amount of interest both locally and nationally. The event, held in honor of Jaime Guttenberg, is an inspirational fundraising dance weekend to be held not only in Parkland, but at over 50 locations around the country as well. These events will take place November 8th through 11th, at dance studios nationwide for a three-hour time period (date and time varies by location). The idea behind the Dance-A-Thon is to fundraise support in a way that represents, honors, and carries on the joy-filled and hopeful spirit of Jaime Guttenberg, who lost her life in the Stoneman Douglas tragedy.
The proceeds raised will go to support causes close to Jaime's heart, including serving people with special needs, community service activities, and of course, dance. The funds raised will be used to award three different scholarships to deserving students of all abilities in honor of Jaime.
"Anyone can participate. It's about coming together, having fun, and remembering Jaime," shared Dance-A-Thon representative Louise Peterson.
The event has two components relevant to the Parkland community. The first is the local "Orange Ribbons For Jaime" Dance-A-Thon to be held Friday evening, November 8, at the P-REC at Pine Trails Park. The P-REC Dance-A-Thon will be the Parkland venue for the Dance-A-Thon weekend, as many local supporters are expected to attend and dance the evening away. Friday evening's dance will include a DJ, videographer, photographer and refreshments. All attendees must register online for the fundraiser, which is $25 per person.
The event schedule at the P-REC is at the following times:
5:00-5:30 p.m.- Proclamation
5:30-6:00 p.m.- Food and Refreshment
6:00-9:00 p.m.- Dance event
"Fred and Jen (Jaime's parents) wanted to help others do what Jamie would have done while she was with us," said Peterson. "We've seen an enormous response from the Parkland community."
The second component to the 1st Annual "Orange Ribbons For Jaime" event are the concurrent events happening the same Veteran's Day Weekend around the United States. Over 50 dance studios and other Jaime-inspired locations have signed up to host their own "Orange Ribbons for Jamie" Dance-A-Thon. From the east coast to the west coast, communities are forming Dance-A-Thon fundraisers in support of "Orange Ribbons For Jaime."
