PARKLAND, FL- As the calendar turns to August, parents begin preparing for back to school shopping in anticipation of the new year. Expenses can add up quickly when purchasing new school supplies, and parents are given a monetary break this coming weekend.

The 2019 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday was passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis. The Sales Tax Holiday identifies a specific set of in-demand items, and gives parents an opportunity to purchase those items without sales tax. The state-wide event begins Friday, August 2, 2019 and runs through Tuesday, August 6, 2019.

The following are included on the tax exempt list for the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday:

  • Certain school supplies at $15 or less per item
  • Clothing, footwear and certain accessories at $60 or less per item
  • Computers and accessories at $1,000 or less per item, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use
