PARKLAND, FL- The City of Parkland is holding a Poem and Visual Arts Contest inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's most well-known public appearance. The "I have a dream" speech King delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. in 1963 has inspired countless people of every background around the world for decades, and it continues to inspire today.
The Poem and Visual Arts Contest is based on the foundational principle of King's speech that "all men are created equal." The contest is asking Parkland students from K-12 to "describe in writing or through visual art your dream for the community and how you will help make this dream come true."
Entries for the contest can be dropped off at the P-Rec or emailed to city of Parkland. All entries are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, January 13. For more information about the rules of the contest, please visit the Poem and Visual Arts Contest application page.
