PARKLAND, FL- Westglades Middle School's Science Club took home first place in the Regional Energy Whiz Expo competition. The Regional Energy Whiz Expo was the first science club competition of the year. The Westglades students were tasked with building a solar cooker that uses heat radiated by the sun to make a three course meal. Utilizing their knowledge of heat transfer, energy transformation and sustainability, the students create their cooker out of recycled materials.

"Teamwork makes the dream work. The students worked diligently to accomplish the task assigned to them. Parental support is also a major factor, as the parents of science club are supportive and encourage the students to be the best version of themselves," said Science Club teacher Ms. Rebecca Haynes. "Westglades has a great community of individuals who strive in helping our students acheive."

Science Club meets on Tuesdays from 3:50-4:50 p.m. in Room 143 for any Westglades students interested in joining the team.
