PARKLAND, FL- Broward County Government hosted a Special Workshop on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the re-opening of Broward County. Recommendations were made by Commissioners for the Phase 1 reopening of businesses and amenities at the meeting. A number of next steps were organized, including the following:
- Solidify guidelines for each category for re-opening.
- Draft an Executive Order.
- Converse with Miami-Dade to work together for South Florida reopening.
"We have to balance the health (of our people) and also the economy," said Broward Mayor Dale Holness.
Additional issues discussed were a plan to open restaurants at up to 50% capacity, and no restrictions on outdoor seating if social distancing guidelines were being met. The idea of a 311 number to report violations is also part of the conversation. The Broward Government also aims to work in tandem with Miami-Dade as much as possible in the reopening season.
Broward is aiming towards this limited reopening on Monday, May 18, pending the approval of Governor Ron DeSantis.
