PARKLAND, FL- The City of Parkland is looking for its next student Mayor of the Month. Students in grades 6-12 with an interest in government are encouraged to apply. Students must submit an application along with an essay on why they want to be involved in government. Applications must be received by 4:00 p.m. on January 2, 2020. The student Mayor will be awarded on January 15, 2020.

The student who is selected will be sworn in at a commission meeting and will shadow Parkland Mayor Christine Hunschofsky at meetings, events and Commission Meetings during their month of service. The goal of the Student Mayor program is to build confidence and support for young people to become involved in their community and develop into leaders.

"The amazing thing I took back from this entire experience was that the decisions we see happening in the community truly happen at the local level," stated past Mayor for a Month, Sinan Kassim.
