CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Be careful about gas pump credit card “skimming,” the Coral Springs Police Department warned this week.

According to the department, Florida leads the nation in thieves tampering with gas pumps’ credit card scanning mechanism to steal credit card numbers they then use for theft.

Fourteen credit card skimmers have been discovered at two 7-Eleven locations over the past five months, police said.

Police said always check the pump before swiping your card.

The pump door should have a sealed sticker, and if the sticker is broken, do not use the machine. If you discover this, report the issue to the attendant.

For another layer of protection, police said: make gas payments with credit cards instead of debit cards.

Call the Coral Springs Police Department if you’ve had any issues at 954-344-1800.
