CORAL SPRINGS, FL – A 26-year-old woman was stabbed to death Tuesday in the parking lot of Broward Health Coral Springs in what police believe was a domestic dispute with a 34-year-old man charged with killing her, police said.

Responding to a 911 call for a stabbing and a hit-and-run incident shortly after 7:30 am, police found Merin Joy in the west parking lot of the hospital with many stab wounds.

Joy was rushed to Broward Health North where was pronounced dead.

Hours later, detectives found the suspect, Philip Mathew, of Wixon, Mich., in a Coral Springs hotel injured from a self-inflicted knife wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and charged with first-degree murder.

Police said the killing was the result of a domestic dispute between Joy and Mathew. Police didn’t explain how they found Mathew.
