PARKLAND, FL- The Florida Senate voted this afternoon to permanently remove Sheriff Israel from office. The vote was primarily divided among party lines with the majority of Republicans voting to remove Sheriff Israel. Republican Tom Lee crossed party lines when he voted to reinstate Sheriff Israel. Democrat Sentors Randolph Bracy, Darryl Rouson and Annette Tuddeo voted for the removal of Sheriff Israel.
All five of the Democratic Florida Senators that represent Parkland and Broward County voted for the reinstatement of Sheriff Israel despite the wishes of the Parkland parents and many in the Parkland community. Senators Lauren Book, Oscar Braynon, Gary Farmer, Kevin Ruder and Perry Thurston were among those that voted for reinstatement.
Israel has filed his paperwork to run for re-election as sheriff in the 2020 Democratic primary.
