PARKLAND, FL- Stand with Parkland, the Parkland-based school safety organization, endorsed Gregory Tony for Broward County Sheriff on Thursday.
"Sheriff Tony has held officers accountable," said Stand with Parkland President Tony Montalto. "He started the BSO Park, Walk and Talk Initiative to build personal relationships between deputies and the community which is needed especially today," shared Montalto.
Tony, the current Sheriff of Broward County, is running against Scott Israel, who was removed from the position in the wake of the Stoneman Douglas tragedy.
"The systemic failures under the leadership of Sheriff Israel failed our entire community," Montalto added. "Failed leadership was exposed in Parkland which jeopardized every citizen in Broward County."
Stand with Parkland, the locally founded school safety advocacy organization, works to make change in our schools to ensure every child can attend school without fear.
Stand with Parkland's mission is being "a national organization representing American families. We are committed to advocating for practical public safety reforms focused on the safety of our children and staff at school, improved mental health support, and responsible firearms ownership. Personal responsibility and a desire for change are paramount to this effort, and it is the people involved at all levels that will make these goals a reality. Violence in our schools affects everyone. It is an American epidemic, and it is time that we all come together to do something about it."
"It's all about accountability, not politics," summarized Montalto.
