PARKLAND, FL- On Thursday, 100 children will turn their visions of dolls and video games dancing in their heads into reality when they join Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony for Shop with the Sheriff. This event is entirely funded by the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office’s annual holiday event will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 12 at the Walmart Supercenter in Fort Lauderdale. This year, the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County will give each child $200 to spend. In addition, all children will receive bags with toiletries donated by Procter and Gamble and bags full of merchandise from the Miami Heat.

For nearly 20 years, BSO school resource deputies have coordinated Shop with the Sheriff. They select students – from grade school to high school – from BSO districts who meet specific criteria such as demonstrating good behavior and having a financial need. The student shoppers will be paired with volunteers from all corners of BSO, including sworn and civilian staff and members of the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward.
